Patricia Highsmith is an amazing writer. She was one of the first female authors who delved into the dark side of her characters and came up with some bizarre twists and turns that laid bare the ugly side of the human psyche.
As with all great writers, her work is still in print and very popular. Not only with readers but also with movie-goers. Only last year we saw her gay novel The Price of Salt come to the screen with the wonderful Cate Blanchett as the main character Carol. The year before it was Two Faces of January with hunky Viggo Mortensen who slowly loses the plot when he takes a turn for the worst. And who can forget two of her classics, The Talented Mister Ripley, with Matt Damon as Ripley, and Strangers on a Train by Alfred Hitchcock, both amazing movies that only get better when you watch them again.
The same holds true for Highsmith’s work, which is still as relevant and intriguing now as it was when it was published. If you are looking for classic crime with an edge, Highsmith is your girl… one that bites!
