Healing fiction is a genre that has gained a lot of popularity recently. That could be because there is so much happening in the world, and maybe people want to escape into a book that is gentle and warm and welcoming. We are also heading into the cold and gloomy days, and these books are perfect for warming your heart. Healing fiction as a genre originated in Japan and Korea, where it has been wildly popular for a while already. These are books that feature ordinary people living ordinary lives, so there’s a lot for readers to relate to. Personal growth of the characters plays a big role, and there is often a magical or speculative element to the everyday setting of the story. They’re often set in bookstores, and cafés, and other mundane locations. It’s peak escapism, while also being grounding and providing an emotional release.

We’re big fans of Healing Fiction at ABC! The first book in the Before the Coffee Gets Cold series is an ABC Favorite, and we’ve done a beautiful window display for (More) Days at the Morisaki Bookshop (check out our social media). Our Bella was interviewed for the NRC back in July, read what she has to say about the genre here.
