ABC’s co-director Martijn was a guest on the Bookshop Podcast!
As an international podcast, The Bookshop Podcast has a wider reach than just the Netherlands, so it’s a great opportunity for the world to know more about our small enterprise.
With the title “Exploring the American Book Center: Martijn Meerts on Bookstore Leadership and Amsterdam’s Literary Scene”, Mandy Jackson-Beverly talks to Martijn about how he started working at the ABC, how he became a manager and co-director, and how much influence his background in anthropology has in what he does.
He talks about all three of our stores: Amsterdam, The Hague and Leidschendam, and how different they all are, due not only to their location but also their sizes and the public that shops there. And the fact all our booksellers are also stock buyers for their own sections make the three stores part of the same family but also different from each other.
Listen here to hear in detail what he has to say about working in the best bookstore in the world (it’s an international podcast so I feel qualified to go global here). The podcast also has a transcript of the interview if you prefer to read instead of listen.
