We received the loveliest email recently from Adeline Riesselmann, wherein she recounted a family tradition that includes the ABC! Adeline kindly gave us permission to share her words and the picture she sent along.

“On Saturday 24 May I visited the ABC Amsterdam together with the (by now grown-up) children of my sister, and their partners. My sister has lived in the US for more than 35 years; she married an American and together they have four children. I live in the Netherlands and don’t have kids. I miss them so much! I visit them every year, and they visit me back almost every year. When I am there I always go book shopping with the kids, something I started when they were toddlers. It was and is a family ritual. Now they all have partners, and of course they can pick a book as well. I pay for them all.

Last month they were in the Netherlands, including their partners, and yes, we went on a book-buying trip. What a joy to do that at the ABC. Everyone was enthusiastic, including the ABC staff, we even got to take a picture. Of course we’re going to keep this tradition going, it’s so much fun!”

Thank you so much Adeline, and the whole family! We are delighted and honored you chose to spend your time with us. Judging by the books bought, you are a family with great taste in literature! We hope you can continue your wonderful family tradition for many more years, and may have inspired some of us to start our own…
