Thanksgiving is a long-standing tradition at ABC, and this year we are once again celebrating with fun activities, baked goods, and extra discount for all customers (check out the full itineraries of our Amsterdam, The Hague and Leidschendam stores on our Events Page!). In recent years, the Blind Book Bundles have become a recurring part of this celebration, and they’re back with a vengeance this year.
The Bundles are like our Blind Book Dates, but on steroids. Instead of one mystery book, there’s three! United by a common theme or thread, we gift wrap these books, hide them in artfully decorated paper bags and offer them to you for a nice price. There’s also the Golden Bookmark: one of the Bundles in each store will have a Golden Bookmark hidden inside, and the lucky person who finds it wins a Booklover Box!

The real fun, for me at least, is in the making of the Bundles. It starts off as randomly finding common threads among books I stumble upon, thinking up ideas, maybe based on books I’ve read, or books with an interesting premise, or just anything, really. I then try to some fun titles to describe said book bags. As a little treat for all of y’all, I’ll even spoil a few themes! Keep your eyes on the blog, because after Thanksgiving we’ll also reveal which books were in which bags. That way you can recreate your own Blind Book Bundle, and I’ll even draw you a matching stick figure if you ask nicely!
One of my favourite themes this year is “Yes We Cannibalism.” The title explains all: books featuring cannibalism in different ways. I’ve tried to go for lesser-known titles, to reduce the chances of our biggest cannibalism fans already owning the books. If cannibalism isn’t your thing, and you’d like something a bit less… meaty, I will also lift the veil of one of the other themes for you! This one is another personal favourite of mine: “Cats!” We all know cats are amazing and the best companions for long nights of reading, but they are also great fun IN our books. (Cats ON the books, on the other hand, is somewhat inconvenient with the whole reading your book thing.)
