There are, once again, lots of books being adapted into movies or TV series this year. Below is a selection of what’s coming to a screen near you in the first half of the year!

People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

This is the first one of Emily Henry’s books to be made into a movie! Almost all of her novels have been picked up for film adaptations. You can already watch this one on Netflix.

Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell

Hamnet dramatized the lives of Agnes Hathaway and her husband, William Shakespeare, who are coping with the death of their son. The movie is in theaters now, and Jessie Buckley, the actress playing Agnes, has already won some awards for her role in this absolute tear-jerker.

Finding Her Edge by Jennifer Iacopelli

Coming to Netflix on January 22nd is this YA skating retelling of Jane Austen’s Persuasion. The book suffered a bit from telling and not showing, which might make it perfect as a TV series.

Heated Rivalry by Rachel Reid

While this TV show technically released in 2025, it’s coming to the Netherlands on January 23rd, with an episode dropping weekly for 6 weeks. Heated Rivalry has taken the world by storm and is truly an excellent romance adaptation: true to the book, but with additions or changes that elevate the story and make it even better.

Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë

Controversial from the moment the casting was announced. Then the trailer dropped, and people had even more to say about it. On February 13th, we’ll finally find out if the quotation marks on the poster mean anything.

Crime 101 by Don Winslow

Also releasing February 13th is Crime 101, based on Don Winslow’s novella of the same name. The heist movie stars Chris Hemsworth, Halle Berry and Mark Ruffalo, which is a promising cast!

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

Andy Weir’s second book to be turned into a movie, Project Hail Mary is the highly anticipated adaptation of a story about friendship and perseverance. And lots and lots of science. Coming to movie theaters on March 20th.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles by Rufi Thorpe

Readers describe Margo’s Got Money Troubles as a wholly original, deeply human story with fully fleshed out characters. With such high praise, you should definitely tune in to the TV series on Apple TV, starting April 15th.

Revenge Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger

Twenty years after the cult-classic film The Devil Wears Prada was released, we are finally getting a sequel! The main cast are all reprising their roles, and on May 1st we can see what’s been happening in the fashion industry since then.

Animal Farm by George Orwell

May 1st also brings the release of a third Animal Farm movie adaptation. The classic story, which is still extremely relevant these days, has been turned into an animated film. According to critics, the book’s message has been slightly diluted, but it’s still a serviceable adaptation.

Three Bags Full by Leonie Swann

Sheep have to investigate the murder of their shepherd! The movie is aptly titled The Sheep Detectives, and stars Hugh Jackman as the unfortunate shepherd. This one looks to be such fun, and you can experience it yourself on May 8th!

Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby van Pelt

This charming book full of heart is the story of Tova, a widow who cleans the aquarium at night and becomes friends with Marcellus, a giant pacific octopus. The movie stars Sally Fields and is coming to Netflix on May 8th.
